Funday Friday

3 Aug

Holy moly could there be a more cliche title?

I’m going to venture a guess and say no. #sorrynotsorry

Friday IS a funday! Its the freakin weekend baby I’m about to have me some…fun. (thanks R.Kelly).

And Rebecca Black.

Okay. Its possible that I should not be trying to write a coherent blog post because I am really hyper this am, and my thoughts are  all jumbled and I keep thinking I’m hilarious. I went to work out with my mom and sister at 5:45 this morning and now that I’m home and have had breakfast and read the NYTimes I have all this energy! Does this happen to anyone else? I kinda dig it.

Anyway today’s post is (thankfully) not about anything serious. But it will (hopefully) still be interesting and FUN! My girl Alex over at The Run Within nominated me for the Liebster Award the other day!! Thanks Alex!

If you haven’t ever checked out her blog, do it! She’s such a sweetheart, and is so smart! You’ll love it I swear. Oh and if you need some tips on how to fuel your body properly if you 1) are Gluten Free 2) are crazy busy 3) are an athlete or are really active 4) are on a budget CHECK HER OUT!

So anyway I’m supposed to say 11 random things about myself and answer the previously tagged questions. Stay with me, this might get a little lengthy…

1) I have exactly 42 bottles of nail polish. Woops make that 43…I bought some Essie “tart deco” at Target yesterday. Of that collection 2 are Sally Hansen, 2 are Sephora brand and the rest are OPI or Essie. This is an expensive addiction.

2) I hate wearing pants. They’re restricting and scratchy and never fit right. Dresses, skirts, shorts, leggings, lulus, undies ANYTHING is better than pants.

3) I get major anxiety from not finishing books. Even if I buy one or download it on my Kindle and realize 3 pages in that I hate it I cannot just stop reading it. I think its a weird perfectionist tendency of mine.

4) I am a cuticle biter. Its a gross habit, and I hate that I do it because it makes my fingers bleed (Black Swan style) all the time, but I can’t stop.

5) I HATE RUNNING. I hate it with every fiber of my being. And I feel guilty about this because I’m actually pretty good at it, and its really great exercise. It hurts my feet, ankles, shins, knees, hips, back, shoulders and it feels like punishment. Even on the most gorgeous of perfect weather days when I used to tell myself “go for a run! You have to! Its so pretty out so doing cardio inside would be a shame!” I still hated it.

6) I am exactly 6 feet, 1 3/4 inches tall. I tell people I’m 6’1″ but in reality I’m only .25 inches shy of 6’2″. And I still wear heels out on the weekends.

7) I’m obsessed with Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Pop Tarts. Granted I haven’t let myself have one in about a year, but oh my gosh. They’re so delicious. So so so sooo bad for you, full of highly processed sugar, gross chemicals, and probably low-greade beaver tranquilizers, but there’s nothing better than one of those heated up and eaten in my special Pop-Tart eating technique. (Edges first, break in half, eat half with less icing first, then half with most icing. Bonus points for being able to separate the top from the bottom)

8) I HATE milk. I always have. I don’t even like it on cereal or in oatmeal. Thank god for unsweetened vanilla almond milk though. That stuff is delicious.

9) I love singing!! And playing the piano. My friend Abbie and I even have a band (see bottom of page for a link to Abbie’s Boner on Facebook!)

We performed at an event for the entire UT Athletic Department this spring! It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. Mostly though we just sing our favorite songs in her apartment.

10) I love mornings. I’m at my calmest, happiest, most productive and energized before 11 am. I also think that mornings are the most beautiful time of day. I would rather wake up at 5:30 am and go to bed at 9 (8:30??) than sleep in past 8.

11) I’m secretly addicted to wedding shows. TLC’s 4 weddings, Say Yes to the Dress, that show with David Lutera, you name it. I love the planning and decorations, and its amazing to me how the planners pull together so many elements to create an amazing event! I think if I could start school again and re-d0 my entire college career I would have gone into event planning. Its so fascinating and so much fun!

Still with me? Hope you enjoyed those bits of randomness. Now for the Q and A section!

  1. What is a little smile for today? Its High Five Friday! Meg’s Friday posts always make me smile! Check it out!
  2. What is your favorite, go to snack product? Hummus. Done and done.
  3. What is a family tradition you plan on carrying on for your family? Christmas morning monkey bread.
  4. What is the most recent blog you have discovered? I  just found Kylie at immaeatthat! Love her blog!
  5. What is one food you could not live without? Greek yogurt. Its so good for you, its delicious, you can mix it with anything to make concoctions, smoothies, overnight oats, or freeze it to make ice cream, and there are enough flavors on the market it satisfy literally any craving I have (thank  you Chobani and Voskos!). It depressing me to think that there was a time where I wouldn’t eat it because it had too many calories. I can’t get enough of it now!
  6. What is your favorite fitness class? I don’t really like fitness classes. Spinning is kinda fun, but I’d rather go to yoga.
  7. What is one piece of clothing or accessory you wear everyday? My tortoiseshell Michael Kors watch. This thing does not come off. Ever.
  8. What relaxes you at the end of the day? My nighttime cup of tea! And my journal. I check-in with myself every night about the day, and it really helps settle my mind down. These two combined are a killer relaxation combo!
  9. What body part do you love about yourself? ohh geeze. Do I have to answer this? I guess my back because its really strong thanks to years and years of swimming.
  10. What is a pet peeve of yours? When people have cars with a seatbelt alarm and they just let it beep and beep and beep and take their sweet time getting settled in before buckling (or don’t buckle at all!) It drives me NUTS!!! Just hurry the heck up, buckle it so I don’t have to hear that incessant, horrible noise anymore!
  11. Is there a word or phrase you use a lot? Oh lord, yes. Most recently I’ve started exclaiming “shoot yeah” and sounding like a total redneck. Haters gonna hate. That was fun, right? I’m supposed to think up more questions and nominate 11 more people, but pretty much everyone I follow/feel comfortable nominating have already been chosen so I’m just going to end this post right here. Sorry for not following the rules, Alex!Have a wonderful weekend loves!! Hopefully I can (finally) get a new camera charger so I can recap my weekend on Monday with some MIMM love!

    xoxo

Do you get a burst of energy after working out?

Are you a morning person? What part of the day is your favorite?

DO you have any bad habits you would like to break (like cuticle biting)?

Who knew you were so tall..I’m only 5ft! And I love running but I’m with you on the love of cinnamon…haven’t tried the pop tarts though!

    • sloanepitman August 4, 2012 at 1:44 am #

haha I’m pretty sure PopTarts are as far from vegan as you can get (aside from maybe a McDonald’s Big Mac). But still. They bring back excellent childhood memories! I totally respect people who love running—I’ve tried so hard to but no more pretending! Its so important to find what truly works for you!

uh you are a sweet heart. I mean seriously, this post is adorable. Ok, the fact that you hate pants makes me adore you even more. I rarely wear them and always get made fun of for this. I agree, so restricting. Good for you for admitting you hate running, there is so many other options you can do that you like to do. Don’t need to do things you hate, right? Have a wonderful weekend. Ps. I am more than thrilled I found your blog and starting following.Probably my new favorite. #sorryi’mnnotsorry

Awww I’m so glad you liked it!! I was in SUCH a weird mood this morning! I’m so glad I found your blog too my dear! I read all the time :)
      Have an amazing weekend lovely!

POP TARTS. Omg I’m obsessed with them. Also, wanna know something crazy – I eat them pretty much the same way! top and bottom always have to be separated though, so basically you have the edges, then the filling, then the bottom frosting-less side, then the frosting. ahaha omg we are so awesome. I do eat them occasionally now but only if I’ve done a long/tough workout….progress I guess! And ahh I’m sorry about your distaste for running lol! I’m sure if you found a way to run that was pain-free (change your form, build miles more slowly, different shoes etc) it wouldn’t be so bad, but hey you’ve got swimming and yoga so why bother lol. this was such a fun post!

    • sloanepitman August 4, 2012 at 1:38 am #

Oh good I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks they’re delicious AND eats them like a crazy person! Glad you enjoyed–and you’re so right. I think if someone filmed my awkward gangly self running it would be totally obvious why it hurts me. But true–swimming and yoga are my true loves :)

    I hate pants too haha.
I also love mornings they are my favourite part of the day:) Especially since I always have mornings off work.
You should totally post a vlog on your singing, I love hearing peoples voices haha, that probably sounded weird…
Yep, I relate to nail polish addiction. Its a true thing.
    Have a great weekend!

    • sloanepitman August 4, 2012 at 1:35 am #

Oh my goodness! A vlog would be so fun!! (I just have to get a little braver haha) you have a fantastic weekend too lovely :)

  5. betterwithsprinklesblog August 3, 2012 at 8:43 pm #

First off: I love that you’re 6 feet tall and you wear heels. I’m 5’7 and people tell me I’m too tall when I wear them (I do have a thing for 3 inch stilettos) so way to rock it, lady. :-)

Second, totally with you on the milk thing. I used to have nightly battles with my parents when I was kid because I refused to drink my glass of milk at dinner. So so gross. Now, I can take it on cereal, but I much prefer my almond milk.

This post/you are effin’ adorable, by the way. :-)

    We are so similar :)
pants suck, mornings are awesome, & running hurts like hell( right now for me anyways).

    • sloanepitman August 4, 2012 at 1:33 am #

      Oh no! Are you injured??

    • sloanepitman August 4, 2012 at 1:33 am #

      Oh no! Are you injured??
I love that we have so much in common though :)

      • Laura August 4, 2012 at 1:40 am #

I might have a hip stress fracture, getting X-rays :(
But I cans till do other activities!
I was going to ask you why running is painful for you?

      • sloanepitman August 4, 2012 at 1:50 am #

Oh no :( I hope that’s not it. Stress fractures are so annoying because rest is all that helps. Its good that you can do other things without pain though! I think I just have really bad form–my hips and knees turn in and my feet turn out–and bad shoes too probably. I also have osteoporosis in my hips and back so repeated impact causes a lot of inflammation there.

  7. jessielovestorun August 4, 2012 at 10:02 am #

Oh I hate pants! I wish It were acceptable to walk around in just undies. I’m not sure the hubby would approve, but hey i’d be so comfortable :) haha. Ah Cinnamon Sugar Poptarts!! When I was younger I would down in a box within days. So friggen good, but just like you I can’t even remember the last time I’ve had one. It’s kinda sad to think about it actually lol.

Have a wonderful weekend girll :)

Oh my goodness can we go partying/out on the town together please?! I am 5’11″ and all of my friends are soo so short, I need a tall companion! I love that you wear heels too, I am working on getting my confidence up to do that!

    • sloanepitman August 5, 2012 at 1:54 pm #

YES oh my gosh that would be so great! I have one tall friend who will NEVER wear heels with me–I’ve been trying to get her to for a couple years now! I always say I don’t want guys who are shorter than me when I’m in heels hitting on me anyway so I might as well throw em on!

  9. livinglearningeating August 6, 2012 at 12:35 pm #

Mornings are my favorite, too! And greek yogurt is yummy :) calories are silly :P Wow, you’re so lucky to be that tall! I always wanted to be taller! I don’t like plain milk either. Oh, and I haven’t run in +1.5 years, so whatever. If you don’t love it, don’t do it!

    • sloanepitman August 6, 2012 at 4:21 pm #

yayyy another non-runner! And you’re so right. Calories are silly!

  10. Danielle @ Clean Food Creative Fitness August 6, 2012 at 5:36 pm #

Love this post!!! I’m so jealous of your 42 bottles of nail polish! I’m always searching for a new color!

    • sloanepitman August 6, 2012 at 5:40 pm #

Thank you! I get a lot of mine from Target actually! They carry Essie and OPI for much cheaper than anywhere else :)

  11. Life After Swimming August 6, 2012 at 10:03 pm #

Gotta love the swimmer back and shoulders! haha

  12. Alek Prus August 9, 2012 at 11:07 pm #

Your so tall WOW ;D Congrats on working towards recovery but you need to just challenge yourself get one of those pop tarts ,eat it(in your special way), enjoy it and try to not feel guilty I promise you won’t get far.In order to get better just keep challenging yourself!

    • sloanepitman August 10, 2012 at 3:35 am #

I def. need to start challenging myself and my recovery more.I’m getting closer to meeting my meal plan, but staying well within the realm of “safe” foods. My therapist brought it up just yesterday, and so did my Mom. Thanks for the encouragement :)
